Crouching low behind the bushes, Maia watched cautiously as a young male wolf choked his prey. She watched his jaws clamp around the young roe deer. Maia had been watching and following him for two and a half days, now, always facing into the wind, making sure that the handsome creature she'd been stalking did not pick up her scent. Unluckily for her, the winds had changed direction, and the male wolf stopped and stood frozen to the spot, ears perked up, muzzle lifted high into the air. Maia crouched even lower, almost lying on the grass. She was in love with him, she thought. Her heart skipped a beat as she stood up to see him better, and he spotted her. A look of shock appeared on her face. She did not move. He bayed politely and greeted her with a sharp bark. Maia hesitated, but bayed also, and began to advance towards the male. She slowed in pace, then stopped as she stood by his side, a good few feet away, the wolf raised his right paw and held it there for a moment before taking a step towards Maia. She did the same thing. She advanced until he was close enough to touch. Her mouth was ajar, ears drooping slightly. They stared into one-another's eyes for a good few minutes, which seemed like eternity, before the male spoke to her in a whisper, a soft, loving whisper.
"I'm Kaye," his grey-silver eyes glistened in the moonlight. Was Kayne in love with her, too? Did he share the same feelings for Maia?
"I...I'm Maia," she spoke in a hushed tone.
"Are you alone, Maia?"
"Yes."
"Are you hungry?"
"Fairly, yes."
"Come with me," Kayne led her back to his prey. He held the deer's flesh in his jaws and dragged it into the thicket. He dropped the deer on the ground, and licked Maia's cheek. She put her ears back, and looked away, embarrased. "Ladies first," Kayne lay down and watched her eat the delicious meat. After a couple of minutes, he began to eat, also. They continued dining on the deer meat for around an hour or so. "Do you have anywhere to stay?" Kayne twisted his tail around Maia's as she lay her head on his shoulder.
"No. No I don't."
"You could stay with me, if you like," Maia lifted her head and licked Kayne's cheek.
"That would be wonderful."
Kayne led Maia back to his den deep in the Timberwood forest, far away from the hunters and their dogs. He brushed a few leaves away which uncovered a large hole in the ground. Kayne entered first, followed by Maia. They continued for a good couple of minutes before coming to an immense cave. It was part of an old mine. It wasn't very light, but Kayne managed to brighten the place up using his pendant.
"You practice magic?" Maia lay down below the warm, glowing pendant that hung from a little peice of wood sticking out of the den wall. There was a little circle of bricks where a fire would be, but there was no wood, this is why Kayne used the pendant.
"Yes," Kayne replied. He lay down next to Maia to keep her warm during these cold autumn months. Food was becoming scarce, for the deer were being hunted. Kayne needed to move himself and Maia far away from Timberwoood, far away from the hunters.

To be continued...
I know this may seem a tad rushed, I only really planned the bit up to where they meet. Anyhoo, I'll post the next part up soon. This part wasn't particularly...big.
